Trade in Goods – SPS and TBT

Course Description

This course seeks to investigate the SPS and TBT Agreements, WTO case law and preferential and regional trade agreements in relation to the implementation of policies and strategies, at the national and regional, within the Caribbean.

The course will focus on the Caribbean perspective by evaluating the application of these technical measures in relation to its impact upon market access and trade flows for Caribbean products intra and extra-regionally. The course will address the dynamic between public and private standards in the context of the WTO SPS Committee and its application to market access for Caribbean firms. Moreso, the course will address the number of technical assistance initiatives that are being implemented in the region to support the capacity strengthening of MSMEs.
