The Shridath Ramphal Centre is the premier Caribbean trade policy training, research, and outreach institution with a mandate to assist Caribbean countries with transforming their economies. As such, the work done by the Centre has largely focused on the growth and development of CARICOM.

An Overview of the Trading Arrangements between the United States and Africa and the United States and the Caribbean Community.

This SRC Policy Brief seeks to initiate a discussion about the trading arrangements that define the United States’ engagement with Africa and CARICOM, to identify what lessons might usefully be drawn across those different configurations of relationships.

Trade-Related Climate Priorities for CARICOM at the World Trade Organization. 

The prospect of a new “sustainability agenda” at the WTO presents new opportunities for members of CARICOM and can help the region to reform its profile, assume leadership, and reframe the terms of the debate at the WTO. The paper proposes key elements for a trade-related climate change agenda for CARICOM countries at the WTO and will hopefully serve as a discussion piece to guide further research, analytical work, and advocacy that might be required to advance that agenda. 

The Shridath Ramphal Centre’s Food for Thought Policy Brief Series. 

Recognizing that food security is fundamental to human existence and sustainable development, the Shridath Ramphal Centre launched a Food Security Policy Brief series entitled Food for Thought. The series explores the trade-related aspects of food security and how trade can meaningfully contribute to Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 2: Zero Hunger across the Caribbean Community.

The Shridath Ramphal Centre supports the efforts to establish deeper trade relations between CARICOM and Africa. This page highlights sessions from the 2022 AfriCaribbean Trade and Investment Forum, SRC Trading Thoughts and Quick Guides on Africa-Caribbean relations, and the Centre’s Caribbean-Africa Webinar Series.

In September 2023, the Shridath Ramphal Centre and the U.S. Embassy (Barbados) agreed to work together on projects to promote institutional collaboration to revitalize the U.S.-Caribbean trade and investment agenda. This page highlights some of the fruits of that continuing collaboration.
