Introduction to Competition Law and Policy

The SRC would like to congratulate all the participants who successfully completed the two-week course “Introduction to Competition Law and Policy”, held online from 1 December – 14 December 2021. The course was organized by the SRC and the OECS Commission and was facilitated by Dr. Taimoon Stewart.

The Introduction to Competition Law and Policy course will explore competition laws in the region with the aim of both creating awareness of the prohibitions and the harm caused to society by anticompetitive conducts, and substantial increase in concentration that can result from mergers. The learning will be reinforced through case examples.

What will I Learn?

On successful completion of the course, delegates will be able to:

  1. Identify types of conducts that may be anticompetitive.
  2. Outline what is required in an investigation, differentiating between cartels and dominant behaviour.
  3. Conduct a basic examination of a sector for excessive concentration in merger analysis.
  4. Identify conducts that have a regional scope falling under the CARICOM Competition Commission and those limited to national jurisdiction.
