Ambassador Wayne McCook
Assistant Secretary General – CARICOM Single Market Trade (CSMT)
Wayne McCook is the Assistant Secretary General – CARICOM Single Market Trade (CSMT) at the Caribbean Community Secretariat. He is an advisor to the Geneva Trade Platform at the Centre for Trade and Economic Integration of the Graduate Institute of Geneva and a member of the Advisory Board of the Centre for Multilateral Negotiations (CEMUNE). He has served as Jamaica’s Ambassador to the United Nations Office and other International Organisations at Geneva, Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China, Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York and Deputy Head of Mission at the Jamaican Embassy to the United States. He has served as a Special Advisor to the Director-General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), and Executive Director of Jamaica’s Broadcasting Commission.
Ambassador McCook has facilitated several multilateral processes and outcomes as – Chairman of the United Nations Open-Ended Inter-governmental Expert Working Group on Indicators and Terminology on Disaster Risk Reduction; Chairman of the Rules Negotiating Group in the WTO; Chairman of the WIPO Intergovernmental Committee on Genetic Resources, Traditional Knowledge and Traditional Cultural Expressions; President of the Group of 77 and China (Geneva); Coordinator of the African, Caribbean and Pacific Group in the WTO (lead negotiator for the Trade Facilitation Agreement); and member of the Advisory Board of UNCTAD.
He is a graduate of the University of the West Indies (UWI), the Georgetown University Law Center, the Norman Manley Law School (CLE) and the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy.
Ambassador McCook is the recipient of the Order of Distinction (C.D) for distinguished service to the Jamaican Foreign Service.
