Advanced Trade in Services
This course introduces students to the rules based system governing international trade in services, the ongoing negotiations for greater liberalization of depth and scope of services at the multilateral, regional and bilateral levels as well as recent development and trends shaping the landscape for traded services.
Specific comparative analysis will be made to the negotiation, formulation and operation of the rules governing services in various fora. Attention would be paid to the powerful influences on patterns of trade. This would include rapid technological advances that propel the rise of FinTech, servicification, global value chains as well as international organisations and groupings such as the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the European Union (EU).
